We spent Easter in Las Vegas (4 days was just the right amount of time to spend there) and I found plenty of gluten free options. We stayed at Bellagio and thought it was a great central spot to stay and loved the fountain displays at the front of the hotel, which we could see from our room.Fountains at Bellagio
Sensi (Bellagio)
On the recommendation of another blog review, we ate in Sensi restaurant within Bellagio and on asking about gluten free options, was presented with a gluten free menu! (And relax…). The service was excellent and the waiter was happy to describe the different options.
It is an Asian influenced menu with quite a bit of seafood, but also steak and other more Western dishes. I really wanted something from the normal menu, but alas it was not gluten free and not being a huge seafood lover I decided on the steak, which was perfectly cooked and the presentation of everything was fantastic (sorry, didn’t take any photos). They also provided gluten free flat bread (a bit like poppadoms) instead of bread while we were waiting for our meal.
Breakfast at Bellagio
There are two main options for breakfast at the hotel, The Buffet and the Cafe Bellagio. The buffet is the best value for money, and also choice for a gluten free diet. (Beware, on one day we were charged double the usual price as it was obviously holiday rates!). Expect to queue for both venues, so go before you are hungry!
The Buffet has an omelette station, cold meats, cheeses, salad and fruit that would be suitable. Take your own biscuits or bread if you need some carbs before a long day exploring the strip! My experience at Cafe Bellagio wasn’t great, as my server wasn’t gluten free aware and had to go and ask the kitchen if the hash browns were gluten free, and then served my omelette with a baked tomato with breadcrumbs all over it! After queuing for over half an hour I wasn’t that pleased with what I got, the cost, or the limited choices I had.
Room service at Bellagio
After a long day walking the stip, one night we decided to have room service. I generally don’t enjoy ordering room service anymore as the choices are usually burgers and other gluten filled foods. There was a salad that looked like it might be safe, so ordered this and asked if it could be checked if it was gluten free. Our food was delivered by an over-the-top friendly waiter who assured me the chef had taken great care to ensure the meal was safe and gluten free bread was provided!!
If gluten free bread is available, they should have it on the menu!! It also means it may be worth checking at breakfast if you want bread, as maybe it is possible in the breakfast restaurants.
P.F. Chang’s (Planet Holleywood)
This was my best experience in Las Vegas, probably because I have only had Chinese food once in the last six years and also because I was so impressed by their policy of serving gluten free meals on a different plate and also having gluten free sauces in different coloured pots. This inspired my blog name ‘The Coeliac Plate!’. The meal was very tasty and I would recommend trying them (they are a chain so if you are travelling elsewhere in the USA you can search for locations on their website).
If you haven’t booked (recommended), you are given a pager so you can go and have a wander around the casino until you are ‘buzzed’.
Maggiano’s (Fashion Show Mall)![Las Vegas -Maggianos_opt]()
Maggiano’s is an Italian restaurant chain, and although it doesn’t have a gluten free menu, they are well versed in gluten free and have gluten free pasta available. The chef actually comes out to the table and tells you what your options are and what can be customised etc.
One option was to make a parmesan chicken with potato chips instead of bread crumbs. I wish I had had this, as I chose pasta purely because I had been carb starved for days, and it was a little bit bland – a few chilli flakes and it probably would have been great!

Overall Las Vegas was a great experience. Try to go and see a show while you are there – we saw Cirque de Soleil ‘Love Beatles’ which was fantastic.

(For Sensi, look under Restaurants/Contemporary dining and you can see the normal menu, but no mention of the gluten free menu which is a shame.)
