Gluten free Mexican food – Queenstown
Located in a central Queenstown laneway, Taco Medic is a bit like a permanent food truck, with a small amount of seating inside (mainly bar style) and some outside tables.
The food menu is 100% gluten free and described on the website as ‘authentic Mexican tortillas and salsas filled with New Zealand’s best produce from land to sea’.
I had a huge serve of nachos, with kidney beans, sour creme and guacamole. I enjoyed them, but usually have melted cheese on my nachos, so did miss that a little bit but presumably cheese is not traditional! If you have onion issues, a lot of raw onion is sprinkled over the nachos so you may like to ask to hold the onion.
My husband opted for the blue corn tacos, having two breakfast tacos (with bacon and egg) and a pork one. His comment was ‘super lovely’!
Drinks do need to be checked for gluten. The soft drink we had was fine, but they do sell Corona beer which is not gluten free by AUS/NZ standards.
Taco Medic is well worth a visit, gluten free or not. Their opening hours are listed as midday until 10pm, but do check if they are open earlier, as we visited at 11.30am on Easter Sunday morning and others were already eating by then.
